The Practice

Gorings is a long established and forward looking accountancy practice with offices in Ilkeston and Sandiacre. We aim to be the leading firm of accountants and business advisors in our area by setting the standard of quality and providing exceptional service and value to all our clients. The practice was established by Gerald Goring in 1948 and has developed into a firm which now serves a wide range of clients. Gorings' substantial client base consists mainly of owner-managed businesses and individuals extending as far afield as Scotland and the South Coast. A recent development has been the formation of Gorings Financial Services Limited which provides independent financial advice in areas such as pensions, investments and estate planning. We are dedicated to offering a value for money service satisfying all accounting, business and personal financial requirements.

Our Team

Gorings' staff have a broad range of accounting experience with a wide range of skills that can satisfy all accounting, business and personal financial requirements. Our people are reliable, approachable and proactive. Most importantly, all members of the team have one outstanding quality - commitment to our clients. Being in existence for over 50 years has enabled us to develop a wide range of systems to give our clients an excellent service. Partners and managers at Gorings lead the team in providing both compliance and value-added services. They are supported by staff trained to give excellent backup resulting in a level of service that we are proud of.

David Bigland - Senior Partner David joined Gorings in 1960 and became senior partner in 1992. David is responsible for the development of the practice at its two offices and is instrumental in delivering a range of value added services to our clients including strategic business management, taxation and wealth planning solutions. As managing partner, David is also responsible for ensuring that all partners and staff work to the highest standards in providing first class client service. In his years in practice, David has acquired significant expertise across all areas of taxation and his client portfolio includes a number of companies that he advises on a wide range of commercial issues.

Michael Allen - Business Development Services Partner Mick joined Gorings in 1966, becoming a partner in 1977. Mick is the head of our business development department specialising in helping firms to succeed through a wide range of business advisory services. Strategic business planning is a specific area of expertise that Mick has acquired and developed over his years with Gorings. He now uses the latest forecasting and cashflow software to provide a truly valuable service to his clients. As the partner overseeing our innovations focus group, Mick is continually looking for new ways to help our existing and potential clients.

David Grace - Audit and IT Partner David joined Gorings in 1961 and became a partner in 1974. David is head of our audit department, looking after this highly regulated area, and is also responsible for the firm's use of information technology. He has overseen the development of IT over the years from the purchase of the first pc to the overall networking of the firm. As a general practitioner, David has a large portfolio of clients who benefit from his vast experience in tax and accountancy. 

Terry Roberts - Audit Manager Terry joined Gorings in 1986 after many years in the accounting profession. In addition to managing a large client portfolio, Terry oversees the day-to-day running of our audit department. His wide knowledge of company law brings expertise to the management of the company secretarial department.

Jason Moore - Tax Manager Jason has worked for Gorings since 1989, qualifying as a certified accountant in 1997. Jason is an important member of our taxation department advising on personal and corporate compliance and planning matters. He also advises on estate planning, inheritance tax and trusts. Jason's portfolio contains some of our larger clients and more complex tax cases.

Martin Brandrick - Small Business Manager Martin joined Gorings in 1982 and qualified as a certified accountant in 1991. He manages a large portfolio of clients from his base at our Sandiacre office, providing a wide range of tax and accountancy services.

Shaun Carpenter - IT Manager Shaun joined Gorings in 1990 and qualified as a certified accountant in 1998. He specialises in providing IT solutions to businesses, advising on and implementing accounting systems and providing training in these areas. Shaun has been instrumental in implementing our customer relationship management software to improve our services to clients. He also chairs our innovations and training focus groups. Shaun provides advice on employment related issues across our client range. He also manages the audits of some of our larger clients for the audit department.

Lisa George - VAT, Bookkeeping and Payroll Manager Lisa joined Gorings in 1997 and qualified as an accounting technician in the same year. Lisa heads our busy VAT, payroll and bookkeeping departments, which provide essential support for our business clients. She also plays a full role as part of our audit team.

Derek Gunningham - Gorings Independent Financial Services Limited Derek is head of our independent financial services arm and a highly qualified financial adviser. This side of our business complements our traditional services to ensure that we provide a complete financial solution to our clients. His knowledge of the financial markets provides us with a valuable tax planning resource and Derek works alongside our team in the provision of estate planning services, development of retirement strategies and personal wealth planning and management. 

Steve Moody - Gorings Independent Financial Services Limited Steve is part of our financial services arm providing specialist knowledge of the mortgage and equity release market acquired over many years. Steve works to ensure that our clients' borrowings are structured so as to best suit their personal circumstances.
